LAHORE: At least one person was killed and 20 others, including five police personnel, were injured Wednesday in an explosion in the Raiwind area of Lahore, police said.
The explosion took place close to a police checkpost, near the vehicle of a deputy superintendent of police.
Rescue officials said the injured were being shifted to the hospital.
According to police sources, the explosion appeared to be a targeted attack on law enforcement personnel.
Police officials added that it was unclear if the blast was of a planted device or if it was a suicide attack. A motorcycle near the blast site had been completely destroyed.
Following the explosion, a large number of law-enforcement personnel and rescue services reached the spot.Â
Chief Minister Punjab Shehbaz Sharif condemned the blast and has sought a report from IG Punjab police.Â
He also instructed the concerned authorities to provide the best possible medical care and treatment to the injured.
